It's common for computer users to become frustrated by a slow responding computer system.

Often this is caused by some malintent piece of software (aka. virus). Othertimes speeding up the response time fo your computer can be as simple as making a couple setting tweeks to your Windows Explorer.

If you find that when you click Windows Exploror it takes too long for the window to open displaying your drives and folders, try these quick simple steps, and it may just help.

It just may be that your computer is taking to locate network shared folders before displaying what you really want to see.

  1. Open Windows Explorer
  2. Click the Tools drop down menu and then Folder Options. In Windows 8 this is in View mode, and then Options.
  3. Within the Folder Options tab click the View tab
  4. Uncheck "Automatically search for network folders and printers"

If you find your computer is still running slow after performing these steps, the problem may be more severe.
